Marisa Sandora Carr is an award-winning writer and editor with more than 20 years of experience in publishing. She is also an adjunct professor teaching writing at Rutgers University and a high school English teacher at the DCL STEM Academy in Wayne, NJ. She has edited thousands of stories and can transform your essay from ho-hum to can't-put-it-down.

My writing has appeared in People, Parenting, Ladies' Home Journal, Girls' Life, Health, Modern Bride, Women's Health, Teen People, Time Out New York and many more publications. During my 22-year career as an editor, I founded and served as Editor in Chief of Girls’ World and Animal Tales magazines for Bauer Publishing, was the Executive Editor for Wainscot Media’s Bergen Magazine and four other Health & Life magazines (regional lifestyle publications targeted to affluent residents in the New York metropolitan area) and was on staff at Ladies’ Home Journal and People. I also spent many years editing teen magazines (Twist, M, QuizFest, AstroGirl and Yikes!) and enjoy working with teens.

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism (where I applied early decision), and I'm fortunate that the college application process went smoothly for me. I have always wanted to use my skills as a writer and editor to help others during this often-stressful time, and my interest in education and working with teens led me to go back to school for a Master of Arts in Teaching, which I earned in 2020. I've read countless application essays, spoken with guidance counselors to get their expert advice and am constantly seeking out the latest information to keep my clients informed about what colleges expect from their applicants. I've done the research so you don't have to. I hope you'll entrust me to help your child write his or her best essay.
